The Board of Trustees of Baze University has approved the establishment of the Chancellor’s Annual Excellence Awards to recognise outstanding contributions to teaching, research, scholarship and postgraduate supervision.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Board chaired by the Founder and Chancellor of the University, Senator Datti Baba Ahmed, PhD, FSAN.
The awards will initially comprise two categories: the Chancellor’s Prize for the Best PhD Supervisor of the Year and the Chancellor’s Prize for the Best Published Academic Staff Member of the Year.
The prizes will be presented annually during the university’s Convocation Ceremony or on any other occasion approved by the Chancellor.
The university said the initiative was designed to strengthen its culture of academic excellence, encourage research productivity and promote high standards in postgraduate education and scholarly publishing.
The Chancellor’s Prize for the Best PhD Supervisor of the Year will recognise an academic staff member who demonstrates excellence in postgraduate mentorship, effective supervision, scholarly guidance and the successful development of doctoral researchers.
The award acknowledges the importance of effective doctoral supervision in developing scholars and researchers and strengthening postgraduate education.
The Chancellor’s Prize for the Best Published Academic Staff Member of the Year will recognise an academic whose research publications demonstrate quality, originality, scholarly significance and influence.
The university said the award would encourage academic staff to pursue high-quality research and publish their work in reputable scholarly outlets, while contributing to the visibility of research produced by the institution.
The establishment of the awards is also expected to encourage research productivity, strengthen postgraduate education, support younger academics and promote a culture of merit and academic achievement across the University.
According to the university, the awards will provide an institutional platform for recognising academic contributions and highlighting the importance of research, mentorship and scholarship to the development of the institution.
The initiative forms part of Baze University’s broader strategy to strengthen research, expand postgraduate education, promote innovation and align its academic practices with internationally recognised standards.
The university said the awards would be subject to appropriate institutional processes and would provide an avenue for academic achievement to be formally recognised as part of its annual academic calendar.
The Chancellor’s Annual Excellence Awards are expected to become an established feature of the university’s academic life, with the initial categories providing a foundation for further recognition of outstanding contributions to scholarship and postgraduate education.
