Borno Governor Urges Research to Aid North East Recovery

Tijjani Bello, Maiduguri

The Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum has called on scholars to produce more impactful research and publish books capable of expanding knowledge, shaping public discourse and supporting ongoing recovery efforts in the North-East.
The governor made the call through the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, at the University of Maiduguri during the unveiling and launch of two academic publications.
Governor Zulum said his administration remained committed to supporting the academic sector in strengthening education and communication for the benefit of younger generations.
Our administration is ever ready to support the academic sector in improving education and communication to help our younger generation,” he said.
Speaking as the guest lecturer, the immediate past Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, stressed the importance of the books, describing communication as a powerful tool through which religion, including Islam, could be understood, misunderstood or even distorted.
Proper Communication
Professor Oloyede urged scholars and Islamic organisations to make greater use of the media to propagate Islamic teachings and promote proper communication of the religion’s values and etiquette.
The author, Dr. Ibrahim Uba Yusuf of the University of Maiduguri, said the publication, titled Communication, “Media and Islam in Nigeria,” was intended to enlighten the public about Islam in the global era and promote teaching and learning from an Islamic perspective.
The publication was edited by Dr. Ibrahim Uba Yusuf and Dr. Abdulmutallib A. Abubakar, both of the University of Maiduguri and Abubakar Alhaji Bukar of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Published in 2026, the book contributes to the growing body of knowledge on communication, media and Islam in contemporary Nigerian society and beyond.
