The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has concluded its Annual Zonal Union Tactical Workshop in Cairo, Egypt, with a focus on strengthening governance, improving institutional effectiveness and aligning football development priorities across the continent.
The two-day workshop brought together representatives from all six CAF Zonal Unions to align strategic priorities, strengthen institutional capacity and establish a common framework for the 2027–2028 period.
The workshop placed particular emphasis on the critical role of Zonal Unions in translating CAF’s strategic vision into tangible football development outcomes across its 54 Member Associations.
Through interactive discussions and practical working sessions, participants identified key priorities in football development, capacity building, administration and competition management, while exploring opportunities to improve coordination, efficiency and accountability.
A central focus was the CAF Impact Programme, CAF’s development funding programme, and how closer collaboration between CAF, Zonal Unions and Member Associations can ensure that investments in African football deliver measurable and sustainable results.

The workshop also provided an opportunity for the six Zonal Unions to exchange experiences, identify common challenges and develop practical priorities and actions to guide implementation over the coming years.
Concluding the highly successful workshop, CAF Director of Member Associations, Sarah Mukuna, said:
“Our ambition is not simply to develop strategies, but to ensure that they deliver meaningful results. Good governance, accountability and effective administration are key to the sustainable growth of African football. We must ensure that the strategies and resources available to our football institutions translate into measurable results, stronger Member Associations and lasting development across the continent”, said Mukuna.
This workshop has provided an important opportunity for CAF and the six Zonal Unions to strengthen strategic alignment and clearly outline priorities for the 2027–2028 period.
“Our CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe, has set a clear vision of making football in all 54 CAF Member Associations world-class and self-sustaining, while ensuring that our competitions become increasingly competitive on the global stage. Achieving this requires us to plan together, align our resources and turn our shared priorities into concrete actions. Our six Zonal Unions are essential partners in making this vision a reality,” she concluded.
The workshop concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration, translating agreed strategic priorities into actionable plans and reinforcing accountability for results.
The Annual Zonal Union Tactical Workshop forms part of CAF’s continued efforts to build stronger football institutions, empower its Zonal Unions and Member Associations, and accelerate the long-term growth and competitiveness of African football.
