The Electric Motor Vehicle Company (EMVC) has entered into a partnership with the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State, to promote indigenous electric vehicle development and strengthen technical capacity for Nigeria’s growing clean mobility sector.
The collaboration, described as the first of its kind between a Nigerian electric vehicle manufacturer and a polytechnic, is designed to support locally engineered electric vehicles while building a skilled workforce for sustainable transportation.
Under the agreement, both institutions will jointly develop electric vehicles suited to Nigerian and African road conditions, conduct research in battery technology, and provide hands-on training for students in vehicle design, assembly, battery systems and maintenance.

The partnership will also grant access to laboratories, workshops and research facilities to encourage innovation and knowledge exchange.
The Chief Executive Officer of EMVC, Mustapha Mona Audu, said the initiative underscores the company’s commitment to developing a sustainable electric vehicle ecosystem through investment in local talent and innovation.
“Building a genuine electric vehicle industry in Nigeria requires more than manufacturing capacity; it requires deliberate investment in people and knowledge. This partnership will enable us to develop vehicles and battery technology suited to our environment while training the next generation of Nigerian engineers and technicians who will sustain the industry,” he said.
Both organisations also plan to establish a Centre of Excellence in Electric Mobility at the Polytechnic, develop specialised curricula and certification programmes, and create internship and apprenticeship opportunities.
Other components of the partnership include collaboration on research, innovation and patent development, promotion of entrepreneurship in clean mobility technologies, support for local fabrication of vehicle components, pursuit of research grants, and deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure on campus for demonstration and research.
The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Dr Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin, described the agreement as a significant step towards aligning technical education with the demands of Nigeria’s evolving clean energy and mobility sector.
He said the collaboration would expose students to practical engineering and manufacturing processes while preparing them for emerging opportunities in the electric vehicle industry.
EMVC is a Nigerian company involved in the design, assembly and manufacturing of electric vehicles tailored to African conditions, including two- and three-wheel vehicles, battery systems and charging infrastructure, with plans to expand into four-wheel vehicle production.
The partnership is expected to support Nigeria’s industrialisation drive, enhance skills development and accelerate the adoption of cleaner transportation technologies.
