The Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area in Lagos State, Mr. David Odunmbaku, has launched a six-month digital skills empowerment programme for 154 youths.

The initiative aims to equip participants with modern technological skills for self-reliance and global competitiveness.

The training, which begins on October 20 at the Council’s ICT Centre, will cover digital literacy, social media marketing, cybersecurity, digital entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing

Odunmbaku charged them to seize the opportunity to acquire valuable digital skills and also fulfil their civic responsibilities by registering to vote and participating in elections.

He expressed concern over the growing apathy of young Nigerians toward governance, stressing that “meaningful change can only happen when youths actively engage in the democratic process.”

According to him, “the present administration values intellect and innovation,” citing initiatives such as the students’ loan scheme and the reintroduction of history as a compulsory subject in schools as proof of government’s commitment to youth development.

Describing the digital empowerment programme as a “fantastic opportunity,” Odunmbaku noted that outstanding participants would have the chance to advance their learning in South Africa.

He said that the initiative was designed to position youths for global competitiveness and contribution to national growth.

“With your certification, you can excel anywhere in the world. This is a catalyst for growth and a pathway to self-sufficiency,” he said.

Odunmbaku reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to promoting innovation, youth empowerment, and inclusive governance
