The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Adedeji Doherty, has pledged to provide strong opposition to the ruling government and pursue a development-driven agenda focused on security, education, healthcare, power and youth empowerment.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lagos, Doherty said his emergence marked a new chapter for the PDP in the state.
He said his decades-long commitment to the party demonstrates consistency, resilience and leadership.

The businessman and industrialist highlighted his political journey within the PDP, noting that he had served in several party positions, including Zonal Financial Secretary, Zonal Organising Secretary, State Chairman, Deputy National Secretary and currently National Vice-Chairman for the South-West.
Doherty said Lagos, as Nigeria’s economic hub, must play a central role in complementing the policies of President Bola Tinubu, arguing that federal reforms would have greater impact if effectively supported by the Lagos State Government.
According to him, his administration would focus on a 10-point agenda covering roads, education, healthcare, housing, security, water, power, and empowerment programmes for youths, women and children.
On security, Doherty said insecurity in any part of Nigeria ultimately affects Lagos because of the state’s strategic economic position and dependence on goods and services from across the country.
Responding to concerns about rising banditry and the recent abduction of schoolchildren in neighbouring states, he vowed to deploy advanced technology and collaborate with other South-West governors to prevent criminal elements from gaining a foothold in Lagos state.
“As Governor of Lagos State, I will deploy every security resource available, including drones and technology-driven surveillance systems, to ensure the safety of Lagos and the South-West,” he said.
Doherty maintained that protecting Lagos would require proactive engagement beyond the state’s borders, particularly in neighbouring states where security threats could spill over into the commercial capital.
He also advocated greater investment in power infrastructure, proposing state participation in electricity distribution companies to make power more affordable for small businesses and households.
The PDP candidate expressed confidence that his experience in business and public service would position him to deliver effective governance and improve the quality of life for Lagos residents.
