In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, the Dangote Foundation has donated 100,000 bags of 10kg rice to support vulnerable residents across Kano State in North West Nigeria.

The distribution exercise was officially flagged off by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, who led a delegation to commence the allocation of the palliatives to the 44 local government areas of the state.

The team also carried out a street-to-street distribution across major roads within Kano metropolis, targeting the poor, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

Speaking during the exercise, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Danjuma Mahmud, said the donation was handed over to the state government for transparent distribution under the leadership of Abba Kabir Yusuf.

According to him, the governor constituted a committee made up of the Secretary to the State Government, the Ministry of Agriculture and other government officials to oversee the process and ensure the rice reaches those who need it most.

He explained that, the committee had successfully delivered the palliatives to all 44 local government councils while also identifying locations with large populations of vulnerable people for direct street distribution.

Dr. Mahmud noted that, the arrangement marked a departure from previous years when the foundation directly supervised the exercise, adding that the decision by the Dangote Foundation, led by Aliko Dangote, to hand over the process to the state government reflected its confidence in the administration.

Some beneficiaries who received the rice expressed gratitude for the support, describing the gesture as timely during the fasting period.

The Ramadan palliative distribution also cut across religious lines, with needy residents from different backgrounds benefiting from the street-level outreach across Kano.
