Diversity is our strength in Nigeria – Sultan of Sokoto

His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto has called on Nigerians to understand one another, as lack of understanding is the major problem bedeviling social existence in the country.

Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, made this statement during the inauguration of Inter Tribal Traditional Leaders Association of Nigeria held in Kano state northwestern Nigeria.

The Sultan said that better understanding and tolerance among Nigerians is what will make the country great among the comity of nations.

“This inauguration today is a step in the right direction in our effort towards bringing everybody together for peace and unity among Nigerians” the Sultan said.

He called on the new executive to reach out to everyone, and to listen to everybodys view on how Nigeria’s problems can tackled from the grassroot.

Strengthening Nigeria’s unity

Kano State Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje thanked all the traditional leaders who came from all over the federation representing various ethnics groups.

According to him the event has a significant importance in strengthening unity among Nigerians in the country.

“This event marks another significant step in our journey towards building unity and strengthening ethnic nationalities in Kano state and Nigeria as a whole.

“By coming together to form this association, you have further demonstrated not only a commitment to foster unity and understanding but also the determination for the continued existence of one Nigeria”.

The Governor lamented the security challenges facing the country at the moment saying that the situation is undermining the developmental ideals brought by the democratic despensation.

Peaceful tribal coexistence

In his acceptance speech the Eze Ndigbo of Kano, Dr Boniface Ibekwe who emerged as the pioneer chairman of the new association said their mission is to restore peaceful coexistence among all the tribes in Nigeria.

He therefore solicited the support of all and sundry towards achieving one indivisible Nigeria, where traditional leaders of varied ethnic groups will contribute their quota towards it’s actualization.

The inter tribal traditional leaders association is an umbrella body of all ethnic leaders living with their people outside inhabited region.
