The newly sworn-in Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr Abel Enitan, has pledged to strengthen the Federal Civil Service, improve policy implementation and restore public confidence in the institution.
Mr Enitan made the pledge on Thursday while speaking with State House Correspondents shortly after he was sworn in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.
He said his administration would focus on making the Civil Service more innovative, productive, professional and responsive to the needs of Nigerians.
According to him, the priority is to ensure that government policies, programmes and projects are effectively translated into tangible results that improve the lives of citizens.
“My task is very simple, and it is just to make the Federal Civil Service more innovative, more productive and more professional, as well as to be more responsive to the yearnings of Nigerians, where the Civil Service as a body translates government policies, programmes and projects into concrete results,” he said.
Mr Enitan said he would build on existing reforms rather than introduce changes simply for the sake of doing something different.
“I am not going to reinvent the wheel. I will rather lubricate the wheel so that it can deliver efficiently and more productively so that I can fulfil the aspirations and expectations of Nigerians,” he said.
He also pledged to ensure continuity in the implementation of government programmes and reforms initiated by his predecessor, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack.
“We will make sure government policies are properly implemented, and we will continue from where my predecessor stopped so that we take the service to the next level and win back the trust and the hearts of Nigerians,” Mr Enitan said.
The new Head of Service thanked President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him and expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their support.
President Tinubu had earlier sworn in Mr Enitan as Head of the Civil Service of the Federation at the State House, Abuja.
He succeeds Mrs Walson-Jack, who retired from the Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
