Edo receives additional 40,012 doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines

Edo State has received additional 40, 012 doses of Moderna vaccines for second phase COVID-19 vaccination from the Federal Government.

The Executive Secretary of Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Julie Erhabor, received the vaccines at the Benin Airport on Thursday.

“The state demanded more vaccines following the increasing demand for vaccines by citizens as a result of the efforts of Governor Godwin Obaseki to achieve herd immunity against the virus through vaccination. 

“Residents who have not been inoculated to come out and get the vaccination, noting that the vaccines are safe, free, and effective.

“We have received another 40,012 doses of Moderna vaccines, accompanied with syringes for the administration of the vaccines, as well as safety boxes.

“The new batch of vaccines is an addition to the 65,016 doses of Moderna, which we received on August 20, 2021. The demand for the vaccines is on the increase following efforts by the Governor to inoculate a large population of citizens.”

“Having almost exhausted 65,016 doses earlier received, we requested additional doses to ensure that we vaccinate a good population of Edo people in order to achieve herd immunity.

“We urge residents to complement the government’s efforts at containing the pandemic and protecting residents by leveraging the opportunity of the ongoing second phase vaccination exercise to get full protection against this common enemy of mankind,” she said.
