The National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education (NCAOOSCE) has explained that projects in its 2026 budget which appear unrelated to its education mandate are National Assembly constituency projects assigned to the Commission for implementation.
In a statement, the Commission’s special adviser on media and communications, Nura Muhammad, said the projects were incorporated into the 2026 Appropriation Act under the long-standing practice of allocating constituency projects to ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) for execution.
He noted that all projects assigned to the Commission form part of its legal responsibilities and will be implemented in line with existing laws, financial regulations and procurement procedures.
The Commission stressed that its core mandate remains unchanged, emphasising its commitment to reforming the Almajiri education system and addressing the challenge of out-of-school children across the country.
NCAOOSCE highlighted achievements including the identification and profiling of more than 700,000 out-of-school children, the establishment of 119 learning centres nationwide, and ongoing community mobilisation efforts to support the implementation of the National Policy on Almajiri Education.
The Commission reaffirmed that improving access to quality education for Almajiri and out-of-school children remains its top priority, pledging to continue working with the Federal Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to expand educational opportunities for vulnerable children nationwide.
