Education: Kwara Governor tasks parents of physically challenged children

The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has advised parents not to discriminate against enrolment of their children in school for a better future.

According to him, “Any child is a blessing from God” and there is a space for every child to have western education.

Governor AbdulRazaq gave the advice at the School of Special Needs, Ilorin, the state capital, while celebrating his 61st birthday with the physically challenged students in the school.

Governor AbdulRazaq chose to cut the birthday cake with physically challenged students at the school located along old-Jebba road, Ilorin, the state capital and donated teaching materials to the school.

Speaking with pressmen after the cutting of cake and commissioning of the teaching materials, the celebrant said, “This was the first place of call when our administration started there is always a need to remember them, those with special needs”

“I also seize the opportunity to see some of the projects that we have commissioned here before now, such as; solar light system and teaching aids.”

Governor AbdulRazaq also used the occasion to call on the parents with a specially challenged child to enrol them into the school of Special Needs said: “Any child is a blessing from God, there are homes like this to cater for them and give them the right chance to excel to have opportunity to participate in the society and improve on themselves.”

He stressed that “school like this are there in other States even the Federal government embrace schools like this there are interventions you give schools like this through UBEC and there is a department in the Federal Ministry of Education that cater for this type of students. We have written to the Federal Ministry of Education to get the right assistance and the right knowledge from them because at the Federal level there are resources to harness.”

Governor AbdulRazaq, urged the school managements to ensure adequate protection of the equipment and teaching aids provided and advised the student to make maximum use of the equipment to acquire knowledge and skills.

Earlier in her address, the principal of the school, Hajiya Aroyehun Fausat commended the state Governor for his support toward the development of the school and urged the state government to assist the school in the timely completion of other on-going projects.

In her own remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Kemi Adeosun said the utilization of the equipment will be made to follow ministerial guidelines to preserve their life span, and disclosed that all students in the school are enjoying fully free education.
