An Ekiti State High Court has sentenced two men to death by hanging after convicting them of kidnapping a member of staff of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The convicts, Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar, were found guilty at High Court I, Fajuyi, Ado-Ekiti, in Suit No. HAD/124C/2022.
The case arose from the abduction of Omoboade Adesina, an NYSC staff member, on 22 April 2022 in Ekiti State. The two men were subsequently arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) and prosecuted.

Delivering judgement, the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, sentenced the two defendants to death by hanging. A third defendant, Usman Abubakar, was discharged after the court found insufficient evidence linking him to the offence.
Justice Ogunmoye held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. He noted that the identification parade conducted by the DSS and the analysis of call data records were key pieces of evidence presented during the trial.

The judgement is one of several recent convictions secured by the DSS in cases involving kidnapping and other serious crimes. The Service said the outcome reflected its continued efforts to investigate criminal offences and support their prosecution in accordance with the law.
