Electoral Commissioners: Senate considers President Buhari’s nominees

Nigerian Senate on Wednesday asked its committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to consider President Buhari’s request to confirm his appointment of two nominees as Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC).

The nominees are; Mahmuda Isah who hails from Kebbi state, and his appointment is being renewed for another tenure, while Mann Omobayi Alli is from Ondo state, and on a new appointment.

Senate also referred to its committee on Ethics, privileges, and public petitions, a request by President Buhari to confirm his appointment of five nominees as members of the code of conduct bureau.

The nominees are; Murtala Kankia, representing north west zone, Zephaniah Ishaku Bulus, representing north central zone, while Farouq Umar, represents the north east zone.

Others are; Abdulsalam Olawale, representing south west, and Prof. Juwayriya Badamasiuy, representing north central Nigeria.

The Senate after considering several reports of its Committee on TETFUND seeking for the establishment of tertiary institutions, and the report of the Committee on Health seeking a legal framework to establish the Federal Medical Centre Okigwe in Imo state, adjourned plenary till 28th of February, 2023, after the presidential election.
