Taylor Swift became the most successful artist in MTV Video Music Awards history on Sunday at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, after winning the Video of the Year prize and receiving the inaugural Artist Director Honours.
The 36-year-old singer had been tied with Beyoncé on 30 Moonman statuettes but broke the record with the new honour, which recognised her work behind the camera and contributions to visual storytelling.
Swift also used the Los Angeles ceremony to premiere the music video for her new single, “Patient Zero”, which stars actors Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson.

“If he’s killing you, I got you, I was patient zero,” she sings.
In the song, Swift warns a woman about a partner with whom she had a toxic relationship.
Swift dedicated the Video of the Year award to country music legend Dolly Parton, praising the late performer’s vivid songwriting and graceful handling of fame.
“I think we were all very lucky to share this planet with Dolly Parton for a time,” Swift said.
