Equities Market reverses gains as index drops by 1.53%

Equities transactions ended in the negative territory at the close of trading on Thursday reversing the gains recorded in the first two trading days of the week.
The all-share index shed 1.53% or 789.04 points to close at 50, 868.52 points amid renewed profit taking activities while the market capitalisation depreciated by N430 billion to close at N27,706 trillion.
The market sentiment however remained positive as trading closed with 20 gainers as against 16 losers.
John Holt led the gainers’ table with a price appreciation of 10% and a closing price of N0.88k .It was followed by Honeywell Flour Mill with 9.95% gain and a closing price of N2.43k while Computer Warehouse Group gained 9.78% to close at N1.01k.
On the losing side were Prestige Assurance Company with 8.7% loss and a closing price of N0.42k followed by Airtel Africa with 8.26% loss and a closing price of N1,500 then University Press which lost 7.37% to close at N1.76k per share.
Sterling bank recorded the highest volume of 29.2 million traded shares and was followed by Guaranty Trust Holding with 19.9 million shares.
At the end of the day’s trading, a total of 138.716 million shares with market value of N1.83 billion were traded in 3,673 deals.
