Ex Presidential Candidate, Peter Ameh Joins NDC

Chioma Eche, Abuja

Former presidential candidate and ex-Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Peter Ameh, has formally announced his decision to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement announcing his defection, Ameh said his decision was driven by the urgent need for patriotic Nigerians and progressive political forces to unite in building a stronger democratic alternative capable of restoring hope, confidence, and national stability.

The former two-term National Chairman of the Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA) noted that he has remained actively involved in Nigeria’s political development over the years, including serving twice as Chairman of IPAC and contesting the 2019 presidential election.

According to him, politics should be guided by integrity, inclusion, internal democracy, and genuine service to the people, stressing that governance must focus on improving the lives of the majority of Nigerians.

Ameh expressed concern over the current state of the nation, saying many citizens are grappling with severe economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and uncertainty about the future.

“Our dear country is passing through a very difficult period,” he stated.

Collective Action

He said the prevailing conditions in the country demand collective action from well-meaning Nigerians committed to rebuilding public trust and strengthening democratic institutions.

The former presidential candidate explained that his decision to join the NDC was based on his conviction that the party offers a platform for constructive engagement, credible leadership, and people-oriented governance.

Ameh also expressed support for the leadership ideals represented by Peter Obi, noting that millions of Nigerians desire accountable, prudent, compassionate, and protective leadership focused on the welfare of ordinary citizens.

He emphasised the importance of collaboration among political leaders and democratic institutions in promoting national unity, stability, and progress.

The politician further appealed for his membership in the NDC to be formally accepted, pledging to work closely with the party’s leadership and members to strengthen democracy and advance the collective interests of Nigerian.

Ameh concluded the statement by reaffirming his commitment to contributing meaningfully to national cohesion, democratic development, and the emergence of responsible leadership in the country.
