A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State, Dr. Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna has called for unity among party members following his emergence as the party’s preferred governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.
Dr. Gwamna made the appeal during a press briefing after being announced as the consensus candidate.
The announcement was made by the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahya, who also serves as Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, during a party stakeholders’ meeting held at the banquet hall of the Government House in Gombe.
Dr. Gwamna praised the national leadership of the APC and Governor Yahya, the party leaders in the state, for the role they played in securing his position as the consensus candidate for the governorship seat ahead of other contenders.
“First and foremost, I wish to thank Almighty Allah and our leader, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahya, for achieving this milestone. I also thank my supporters within and outside the party and the people of Gombe State for the support they have shown throughout our contest,” he said.
Speaking with journalists following his emergence as the APC’s preferred candidate for the 2027 General Election, Dr. Gwamna pledged to continue the work of Governor Yahya in moving Gombe State forward.
“I assure you of continuity with what His Excellency is doing, because he is doing very well,” Dr. Gwamna stated.
He appealed to his rivals in the contest to join him and support his candidature.
“They should set aside all their differences and put Gombe State above everything,” he said.
Dr. Gwamna also urged his party members to unite and support him, stating that doing so would help deliver victory for President Tinubu and all other APC candidates contesting various positions at all levels in the state during the 2027 general elections.
Dr Gwamna is officially the consensus candidate of the APC for the Gombe State governorship race in the forthcoming 2027 general election.
Major contenders who had previously indicated an interest in contesting for the governorship of Gombe State under the APC include; Senator Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali, the immediate past Minister for Transportation, and Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, a former Minister for Communications and Digital Economy.
