The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has commended her predecessor, Professor Shuaibu Oba AbdulRaheem, for his contributions to the commission’s growth and development.
Omidiran described AbdulRaheem as an outstanding leader whose legacy and established standards would remain indelible in the institution.
She made the remarks when she received the former chairman at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, expressing delight at hosting him and acknowledging his enduring contributions to the institution.

AbdulRaheem, who was accompanied to the Executive Chairman’s office by the FCC Commissioner representing Kwara State, Abdullahi Ibrahim, received a warm welcome from members of staff, who celebrated his visit with a lively dance.
In his remarks, the former chairman commended the Fifth Commission for its efforts and urged commissioners and staff to remain committed to their responsibilities, uphold professionalism and build on the progress already achieved.
He also offered guidance on strengthening teamwork, promoting institutional development and improving service delivery, stressing the importance of collective commitment to the commission’s mandate.

Some commissioners expressed appreciation for AbdulRaheem’s words of encouragement, describing his interaction with the commission’s leadership and staff as an opportunity to benefit from his experience and institutional knowledge.
The visit provided an opportunity for commissioners and staff to reflect on the commission’s achievements, leadership experience and the need for sustained institutional growth.
The Federal Character Commission is responsible for promoting fairness and equity in the distribution of public institutions, employment opportunities and socio-economic infrastructure among Nigeria’s federating units, in line with the federal character principle.

The visit ended on a cordial note, highlighting the importance of continuity, collaboration and shared responsibility in advancing the commission’s mandate of ensuring equitable representation, fairness and national unity.
AbdulRaheem served as Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission from April 2008 to October 2014, with a brief interruption in 2011, when he resigned to contest the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in Kwara State.
