The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, says the administration of President Bola Tinubu has significantly expanded infrastructure development in the nation’s capital.
Wike stated this in Abuja while briefing journalists after inspecting several ongoing road projects aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic congestion across the FCT.
The minister inspected the construction of Arterial Road S1, linking Ring Road II with Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) in Kaura District, as well as Collector Road C2 in Life Camp, linking it to Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way).
He also inspected the construction of Arterial Road N16, linking Ring Road II with Ring Road III, and Jereton Mariere Street around the Apo Legislative Quarters in Gudu District.
Wike said the projects were part of ongoing efforts to improve road connectivity and open up new areas for development within the capital.
“We are happy because we can see that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has redefined infrastructure as far as the FCT is concerned,” he said.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, saying the administration remained committed to completing the projects within the stipulated timelines.
He expressed particular optimism about the completion of Arterial Road N16, despite the challenging terrain and the construction of major bridges along the corridor.
Wike said the contractor had assured the administration that the project would be completed by the first week of January.
“If that N16 job is completed, obviously, the entire area will be a different thing altogether. That is a very huge infrastructure landmark,” he said.
The minister also inspected the ongoing remodelling and renovation of the IBB Golf Course, saying the facility was expected to be fully operational and ready to host major tournaments by November.
On funding, Wike said implementation of the FCT’s 2026 capital budget had reached 60 per cent.
He explained that initial delays in the release of funds had affected payments to some contractors but said the situation had stabilised, allowing contractors to resume work at full capacity.
The minister also advised political aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections to focus on presenting their records and programmes to voters rather than engaging in political distractions.
