Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has sworn in the 21 newly elected Local Government Council Chairmen, charging them to uphold transparency, accountability, and people-centred leadership while taking governance to the grassroots.
At the swearing-in ceremony in Yola, Governor Fintiri described the oath of office as a sacred commitment to both the people and God, reminding the chairmen that public office is a solemn responsibility requiring integrity and selfless service.
The governor congratulated the council chairmen and the 226 councillors elected across the state, as well as the people of Adamawa for their continued faith in the democratic process.
He also commended the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) for conducting a credible election, noting that his administration has successfully conducted four local government elections in seven years, a feat he said demonstrates its commitment to strengthening democracy at the grassroots.
Governor Fintiri urged the council chairmen to remain in their respective local government areas and make themselves accessible to the people.
“You are not elected to work in Yola. Except on extreme official assignments, I would not like to see your individual faces here,” he said, stressing that local government administration is not a part-time responsibility.”
He directed the chairmen to work closely with traditional rulers and Development Area Administrators to foster trust between government and citizens while ensuring government policies reach rural communities.
The governor further cautioned them against corruption, emphasising prudent management of public resources and adherence to the principles of transparency and accountability.
According to him, citizens are increasingly demanding accountability and expect every public fund allocated for development to be used judiciously.

New ALGON Leaders
Following the inauguration, the newly sworn-in council chairmen elected the leadership of the Adamawa State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).
Dr. Titus Obadiah, Chairman of Mayo-Belwa Local Government Council, emerged as Chairman of the chapter, while Yusuf Mohammed, Chairman of Madagali Local Government Council, was elected Vice Chairman. Barrister Ibrahim Jibrin, Chairman of Yola North Local Government Council, was elected Secretary.
Congratulating the new executives, Governor Fintiri described their emergence as a reflection of the confidence and respect they command among their colleagues.
He urged the new ALGON leadership to provide purposeful leadership, remain united, and justify the trust reposed in them by advancing grassroots governance across the state’s 21 local government areas.
“The confidence your colleagues have placed in you is a call to greater service. Do not betray that trust. Uphold the values of accountability, transparency, teamwork and selfless service as you work together to advance grassroots development across our state,” the governor said.
Governor Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with local government councils to deepen development and improve the lives of people across Adamawa State.
