Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has described strong collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government as a panacea for peace, sustainable development and economic growth.
Governor Fubara made the assertion while dismissing reports in some national dailies alleging a rift between the two arms of government and suggesting that the disagreement had stalled the passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
On July 10, Governor Fubara presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill, tagged “Budget of Growth for Resilience and Development”, worth ₦1.854 trillion to the Rivers State House of Assembly for deliberation and passage.
Fubara maintained that the executive and the Rivers State House of Assembly had continued to work closely in the interest of the people, contrary to allegations of disunity reportedly published by some news outlets.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor indicated that he was focused on delivering democratic dividends and strengthening economic opportunities for citizens.
It stated, “The reports alleging disagreement between the executive and legislative arms of government over the 2026 Appropriation Bill are misleading and capable of creating unnecessary tension in the state.
“Governor Fubara is not at loggerheads with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly but is working closely with them in the interest of the Rivers people. The 2026 Budget proposal has already been presented to the State House of Assembly and is currently undergoing the normal legislative process.”
The statement continued, “We strongly believe that once the process is completed, it will be passed by the lawmakers.”
According to the statement, the administration remained committed to fostering cooperation among the various arms of government, noting that peace, stability and unity were essential to achieving meaningful development across Rivers State.
The statement further indicated, “The Rivers State Government has gone through difficult times in the past and is not prepared to be dragged into another round of controversies.”
It added, “We, therefore, advise all those bent on promoting negative narratives to desist from such actions forthwith, as we need peace and harmony to ensure steady development of Rivers State.”
