Military Pressure Triggers Surge in North-East Terrorist Surrenders

Operation HADIN KAI has recorded a 213 per cent increase in the number of terrorists and their associates surrendering to troops in the North-East within one week.

The development was disclosed by the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI, through its Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni.

Goni said the increase followed sustained ground operations, attacks on terrorist positions and disruption of logistics routes across the theatre.

He said the rising number of surrenders indicated the impact of sustained military pressure on terrorist groups, affecting their ability to maintain cohesion, replenish supplies and sustain prolonged operations.

Two high-profile terrorist members surrendered to troops during the latest reporting period, bringing arms, ammunition and other military items with them.

The recovery of the weapons alongside the surrender, according to the command, further reduced the operational resources available to terrorist networks.

In a separate incident, some terrorists surrendered to troops at New Abaram in Bama on 7 August.

The individuals surrendered to troops of 202 Battalion following sustained military operations and internal disagreements within their enclave.

They were subsequently screened, while mobile phones and other items were recovered and handed over for further action in line with established procedures.

The command said the development reflected the combined impact of military operations and disruption of logistics and supply routes used by terrorist groups.

It said ground operations had constrained the movement and territorial freedom of the terrorists, while attacks on logistics routes had made it more difficult for them to sustain personnel, equipment and prolonged operations.

The Theatre Command said the rising number of surrenders provided an additional indication of the impact of its operations beyond battlefield encounters.

It said each surrender potentially removed personnel, weapons, information and logistical capacity from terrorist networks, while creating opportunities for intelligence gathering.

The command said it would maintain the pressure while keeping established surrender channels open to fighters and associates willing to abandon violence.

It added that the broader objective remained the progressive degradation of terrorist capabilities, restoration of security and creation of conditions for lasting stability across the North-East.

The Theatre Command urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.

It also encouraged terrorists and their associates to abandon violence and make use of available surrender procedures.
