The Gombe State Government has placed its Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) on alert following the reported declaration of an Ebola outbreak in Nigeria.
Speaking with journalists in Gombe, the Commissioner for Health, Professor Adamu Danladi Bojude, assured residents of the state’s preparedness to respond to any potential threat.
Bojude disclosed that the alert followed the confirmation of an Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) case involving a person who arrived from Uganda.
He said the patient was in isolation in Abuja, while contact tracing and follow-up activities had commenced.

According to the commissioner, the state had been receiving daily updates from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) on persons of interest (PoIs) who might have been exposed to the virus.
He disclosed that, as of 20 October 2026, no person of interest had been identified in Gombe State.
Bojude explained that the state PHEOC was liaising with its counterpart in Abuja to receive notifications about anyone in Gombe who might have visited the hospitals attended by the confirmed patient.
He further stated that a person of interest in Gombe State would be anyone who had visited the hospitals where the patient sought medical attention from 7 October 2026 onwards.
The commissioner explained that identified persons of interest would be quarantined for 21 days, closely monitored and have samples collected for screening. Anyone who developed symptoms would be isolated at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, for further management.
Bojude further announced that the state government would conduct a Joint Risk Assessment (JRA) for Ebola Virus Disease and activate an EVD Technical Working Group as part of efforts to strengthen preparedness and response.
He assured residents that the government would remain alert to the evolving situation and was prepared to respond to developments as they arose.
The state government urged residents to remain calm as public health authorities continued surveillance and preparedness activities in response to the reported outbreak.
