Gombe State Land Reforms Boost Growth, Investment

By: Rebecca Mu'azu, Gombe

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya says Gombe State’s land administration reforms are accelerating urban development, economic growth, and property rights protection.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Gombe Geographic Information System (GOGIS) Field Office in the Shehu Abubakar District, he said the reforms have modernised land administration and reduced fraud, poor record-keeping, and delays in processing land titles.

According to the governor, the reforms led to the creation of key development areas, including the Gombe Special Capital Development Zone, Shongo Gardens Layout, Shehu Abubakar District, and the Special Agro-Development Zone.

He noted that the Shehu Abubakar District has witnessed significant transformation through a ₦24 billion investment in roads, drainage systems, and other public infrastructure.

Investor Confidence

Yahaya said the digitisation of land records has strengthened land ownership security, increased internally generated revenue, and boosted investor confidence in the state.

He also announced plans for a statewide land title recertification exercise to migrate manually issued titles into the GOGIS digital database.

Better Service Delivery

The governor disclosed that the state will embark on a comprehensive street naming and house numbering project to enhance security, emergency response, and public service delivery.

He described the newly commissioned GOGIS Field Office as a one-stop centre designed to bring land administration services closer to residents.

Reforms delivery

Director-General of GOGIS, Dr. Kabiru Hassan, promised that despite the challenges faced, the agency remained committed to enforcing the law and delivering reforms.

Over 45,000 Land Records Digitised

Hassan disclosed that GOGIS has digitised more than 45,000 land records, regularised about 18,000 customary titles, introduced Digital Certificates of Occupancy, and generated over ₦7.5 billion in land-related revenue.

He added that the planned recertification exercise will improve ownership verification, eliminate duplicate records, and further strengthen investor confidence.
