Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has pledged sustained government support for security agencies to strengthen policing and preserve the peace across the state.
Governor Eno made the commitment on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, when he received the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6, Rashid Afegbua, who paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Uyo.
The Governor commended security agencies in the state for their dedication, synergy and commitment, noting that their coordinated efforts had contributed significantly to the peace enjoyed by residents.

He welcomed the new AIG to the zone and expressed optimism that his assumption of office would further strengthen the security architecture and complement ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property.
Governor Eno also commended the State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Muhammad Azare, for his proactive approach to security management and for fostering collaboration among the Police, other security agencies and the civil populace.
“Thank you for the work you do and the support we get, and for the proactive response that we receive. We will continue to ask for it, and we will continue to do the best we can to support the Police and other security agencies to discharge their duties,” the Governor said.
Earlier, AIG Afegbua thanked the Governor for the reception and commended his administration for prioritising peace and security through focused governance.
He said the visit was aimed at familiarising himself with the leadership and people of Akwa Ibom, which falls within his area of responsibility, while formally registering his presence in the state.
Peace and Security
The AIG assured the Governor of his readiness to collaborate with the state government and provide the necessary support to sustain peace and security, describing these as essential to the continued development of Akwa Ibom.
AIG Afegbua was accompanied by senior police officers, including CP Azare Baba, DCP Audu Lawan, DCP Joseph Esegine, DCP Barko, ACP Asuquo Ebong, DSP Jefferson Osupe and ASP James Ogeh.
Also present to receive the delegation were the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr Aniefiok Johnson; Commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways, Gen. Koko Essien (rtd.).
Others included the Honorary Special Adviser on Security, DIG Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi (rtd.); State Accountant-General, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien; Chief Security Officer to the Governor, CSP Besta Sini John; and Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ekerete Udoh.
