The chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, received the President of Guards Polo Club Abuja, Mustapha Junaidu, during a working visit to the Headquarters in Abuja.
The strategic meeting, also with members of the club, centred on deepening collaboration between the sports commission and elite polo authorities.
The aim was to expand infrastructural development, boost sports tourism, and attract private sector investment into equestrian sports across Nigeria.

Focus was also on recognition by the Commission of polo within it’s sports federation structure, alongside discussions on how the Commission can extend support to the club.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss the place of Guards Polo Club Abuja within the Commission’s RHINSE framework and the areas where institutional support can contribute to the club’s activities and the development of polo.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to establish closer administrative channels to support equine sports, improve arena facilities, and integrate polo tourism into the wider national sports development master plan.
As the National Sports Commission continues its aggressive push to restructure Nigerian sports into a viable business economy, engagements with legacy sporting bodies like the Guards Polo Club mark a vital step toward public-private synergy.
