The Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security has secured the commitment of key security, intelligence and regulatory institutions to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and develop coordinated strategies aimed at addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
The commitment was reached at the maiden Homeland Security Stakeholders’ Meeting convened by the Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security, Major General Adeyinka T. Famadewa (Rtd), in Abuja.
The meeting, which brought together heads and representatives of key Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), focused on building stronger institutional synergy and enhancing Nigeria’s homeland security architecture through intelligence sharing, technology deployment and coordinated operations.
In his opening remarks, Major General Famadewa said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to building a secure, resilient and technology-driven homeland security system capable of responding effectively to both existing and emerging security threats.
He stressed that achieving the administration’s security objectives requires sustained collaboration, information sharing and coordinated action among all relevant institutions.
The stakeholders were also briefed on the mandate of the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security and its strategic priorities, with discussions centred on implementing a Unified Surveillance Programme to improve nationwide situational awareness, strengthening identity management to curb criminal exploitation of anonymous platforms, enhancing border security through technology-driven and intelligence-led operations, and establishing more effective early warning, crisis reporting and emergency response mechanisms.
Major General Famadewa explained that the office was established to complement existing security structures rather than duplicate their responsibilities, while commending the Armed Forces and other security agencies for their sacrifices in restoring peace across the country.
He also underscored the importance of non-kinetic approaches in building national resilience against emerging threats.
Participants reaffirmed their collective commitment to deepening institutional collaboration, noting that Nigeria’s increasingly complex security environment demands a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach driven by intelligence sharing, technological innovation and coordinated action.
The meeting ended with a shared resolve to establish effective coordination mechanisms, sustain regular stakeholder engagements and develop practical implementation frameworks to translate the agreed priorities into measurable outcomes in support of national security and public safety.
