The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving boundary disputes through dialogue and peaceful engagement as part of efforts to strengthen security, prevent communal conflicts and promote sustainable development.
The assurance was given by the State Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Anambra State Boundary Committee, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, during a review meeting on the ongoing boundary monumentation of communities affected by longstanding land disputes in Awka.
Ibezim said the committee’s work aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of fostering peaceful coexistence and resolving community disagreements through dialogue rather than conflict.
He commended members of the committee for their commitment and urged communities involved in boundary disputes to embrace reconciliation.
“Communities must sheathe their swords and embrace peace as the foundation for sustainable development,” he said.
The committee reviewed progress on boundary monumentation involving Eboitenani Umuoji and Mgbachu Nkpor, Agbudu Nando and Igbariam, as well as Ndikelionwu and Amaokpala communities.
Earlier, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Boundary Matters, Mr. Ekenechukwu Okoye, said the committee had made significant progress in resolving inter-community and interstate boundary disputes through dialogue and strategic peace-building initiatives.
According to him, the interventions have restored stability in communities including Ikem-Ivite and Aguleri, Agbaja Anaku and Akpi-Umuoka in Omor, as well as Akamanato, Nando and Dagama in Ikem-Ivite.
He stressed that the committee would continue to prioritise mediation and dialogue to prevent future conflicts and strengthen peaceful relationships among communities.
Representatives of the affected communities praised the committee’s efforts and called for the speedy completion of boundary demarcation and monumentation to consolidate the peace already achieved.
The Anambra State Boundary Committee reiterated its commitment to using dialogue, mediation and peaceful negotiation to resolve disputes and enhance grassroots security across the state.
