The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has listed retired Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, as the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate for Nasarawa State.
The Adamu Campaign Organisation disclosed this in a statement signed by its Director of Digital Media and Communications, Otaru Douglas, in Lafia, the state capital.
The organisation described the listing as confirmation of Adamu’s candidacy, saying it had addressed speculations and controversies surrounding the party’s flag bearer ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

It said the development would not distract the campaign from engaging voters across the state’s 13 local government areas on its proposed programmes.
According to the statement, the campaign’s priorities include improving security, creating jobs, empowering youths and women, and promoting people-centred governance.
The organisation congratulated Adamu, the SDP leadership at the national and state levels, and party supporters on the development, commending their commitment to the campaign.
It also called on residents and other supporters to join the movement, expressing confidence in the party’s preparations for the forthcoming election.
However, the statement did not provide further details of the INEC publication or the specific process through which the commission listed Adamu as the party’s candidate.
