The Industrial Training Fund is set to launch a Business Incubation Programme for beneficiaries of its Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) initiative, a move aimed at transforming trained artisans into business owners and employers of labour across Nigeria.
The Fund said the programme is designed to bridge the gap between skills acquisition and enterprise development by providing artisans with the support required to establish and grow sustainable businesses.
In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Thomas Ngor, the ITF described the initiative as a major milestone in the Federal Government’s efforts to promote entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, skills development, and inclusive economic growth.
According to the statement, the programme will equip selected artisans with business development tools, mentorship opportunities, market access, and other support services needed to build viable enterprises.
“It is specifically designed to bridge the gap between skills acquisition and enterprise development by providing selected artisans with the tools, training, mentorship, business support services, and market access required to build successful and sustainable businesses,” the statement said.
The ITF explained that beneficiaries would undergo intensive entrepreneurship and business management training, including participation in the internationally recognised Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) Programme.
The Fund also disclosed that participants would receive support in obtaining professional certifications and licences to improve their competitiveness and marketability.
As part of the incubation framework, selected artisans will be provided with tools, equipment, and start-up support packages under clearly defined participation and repayment arrangements.
Speaking on the initiative, the Director-General of the ITF, Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, described the programme as a strategic intervention aimed at helping artisans transition from skilled workers to successful entrepreneurs.
He noted that the initiative goes beyond vocational training by creating a structured pathway for artisans to contribute to economic development through enterprise creation.
“The ITF Business Incubation Programme for SUPA Artisans is designed to ensure that the skills acquired through the SUPA Programme translate into sustainable livelihoods, thriving enterprises, and increased economic opportunities for Nigerian youths,” Ogun said.
“Our goal is to nurture a new generation of artisans who will drive MSME growth, create jobs, and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s industrial development,” he added.
The ITF said the programme underscores its commitment to strengthening technical and vocational skills while fostering entrepreneurship capable of supporting Nigeria’s industrialisation agenda and expanding employment opportunities for young people.
