Kaduna State is hosting the 32nd Annual Judiciary Sports Competition, with the state government and the National Sports Association for the Judiciary (NASAJ) emphasising the importance of sports in promoting the welfare, unity and professional development of judicial officers and staff.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, James Atung Kanyip, declared the competition open on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Murtala Square Kaduna State Northwest Nigeria, on behalf of Governor Uba Sani.
Kanyip said the competition provides an opportunity for judicial personnel from across the country to improve their physical fitness, strengthen professional relationships and promote values such as discipline, fairness, teamwork and mutual respect.
He noted that the effectiveness of the judiciary depends not only on laws, procedures and facilities but also on the competence, integrity and well-being of the people responsible for administering justice.
He urged participants to compete fairly, respect the rules and demonstrate good sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Welfare of Judicial Officers
In his remarks, the Chief Judge of Kaduna State, Justice Tukur Mu’azu Aliyu, who represented the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, said the welfare of judicial officers and staff deserved sustained attention to ensure effective administration of justice.
He described sports and physical recreation as important tools for maintaining good health, reducing stress and promoting teamwork, discipline and perseverance.
Justice Aliyu added that the competition provides a platform for judicial personnel from different courts and institutions to interact, build friendships and strengthen their sense of belonging to one judicial family.
Earlier, the President of the National Sports Association for the Judiciary (NASAJ), Comrade Noah Sunday, commended the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Governor Uba Sani and the Chief Judge of Kaduna State for their support towards the organisation of the competition.
He urged participants to uphold the principles of discipline, integrity, fairness and excellence, noting that sportsmanship should be measured not only by victory but also by respect for others and the spirit of participation.
The annual competition brings together judicial officers and staff from various courts and judicial institutions nationwide to promote fitness, fellowship and institutional cooperation.
