Kaduna State Awards N50bn Flood, Erosion Control Contracts

The Kaduna State Government has signed contracts worth over N50 billion for major flood and gully erosion control projects across parts of the state.

The signing of this contract forms part of the efforts to address the devastating impact of flooding and environmental degradation in the state.

The projects, being implemented through the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, will cover Rigasa/Tudun Wada, Kawo and Zaria township.

According to a statement issued by the state government, “the contracts were awarded after a rigorous and transparent procurement process.”

Three construction firms — Mothercat Nigeria Limited, CGC Nigeria Limited and Spectrum Engineering Limited, emerged as successful bidders for the projects.

Mothercat Nigeria Limited secured the Rigasa/Tudun Wada corridor project, which spans more than 17 kilometres.

The project will involve structural engineering and bio-remediation works aimed at stabilising soil and controlling water flow through reinforced concrete channels and transition sections.

Spectrum Engineering Limited was awarded the Kawo corridor project, covering over three kilometres.

The project is designed to expand water channels to prevent washouts, while stone pitching, composites and bio-remediation measures will be deployed to protect vulnerable areas.

In Zaria township, CGC Nigeria Limited will handle an 11-kilometre flood control and erosion management project.

The intervention is expected to include preventive engineering structures to improve water flow capacity and safeguard nearby properties and public infrastructure from flood damage.

The State government said that “the projects are intended to tackle persistent flooding, gully erosion and land degradation affecting several communities across the State.”

It stated that the interventions would help protect lives, livelihoods and critical infrastructure, while also strengthening climate resilience and promoting sustainable land management.

“The projects reflect the shared commitment of the Kaduna State Government and the ACReSAL Project to combating environmental degradation and promoting ecological sustainability for present and future generations,” the statement reads.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to implementing impactful environmental restoration projects aimed at enhancing community resilience and sustainable development across the state.
