Kano Health Board Deploys Teams to Enhance Care

The Kano State Hospitals Management Board (HMB) has taken steps in strengthening Health care services by inaugurating two high-powered top management supervisory teams to strengthen monitoring, accountability, and service delivery across all secondary healthcare facilities in the state.

The initiative, approved by the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, aligns with the healthcare reform agenda of Governor Abba Yusuf and the Board’s commitment to improving the quality of healthcare services for residents of Kano State.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Board, Samira Suleiman, the supervisory teams will conduct regular monitoring, evaluation, and supportive supervision of hospitals under the Board’s jurisdiction.

The exercise is designed to promote excellence in healthcare delivery, ensure compliance with professional standards, improve accountability, and accelerate ongoing reforms in the state’s health sector.

The teams will engage directly with healthcare workers, identify operational challenges, assess infrastructure and equipment, and recommend practical solutions aimed at enhancing patient care and satisfaction.

Team A is chaired by the Executive Secretary, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, and includes the Director of Administration and General Services, Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Director of Medical Laboratory Services, Deputy Director of Nursing Services, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, as well as representatives of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Association of Laboratory Scientists (ALS), and Public Health Nursing (PHN).

Team B is headed by the Director of Medical Services and comprises the Director of Nursing Services, Deputy Director of Accounts, Director of Hospital Services, and representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), Primary Health Care Coordinators, Pharmaceutical Association, and the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN).

The teams have been mandated to assess healthcare service delivery, monitor staff attendance and productivity, evaluate medical equipment and infrastructure, ensure the availability of essential drugs and laboratory consumables, and enforce compliance with established clinical and administrative standards.

Other responsibilities include identifying operational challenges, fostering teamwork and professionalism among staff, monitoring hospital cleanliness, tracking the implementation of previous recommendations, and submitting comprehensive reports to the Executive Secretary after each supervisory visit.

Speaking on the development, Dr. Nagoda said “the formation of the teams underscores the Board’s resolve to institutionalize continuous quality improvement and responsive healthcare management across all facilities”.

Effective Supervision

He emphasised that effective supervision remains a critical pillar for achieving excellence in healthcare delivery and assured residents that the Board would continue to deploy all necessary measures to ensure government investments in the health sector translate into improved healthcare services.

The Kano State Hospitals Management Board reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Governor Yusuf’s vision of building a resilient, accessible, and efficient healthcare system capable of meeting the healthcare needs and aspirations of the people.
