The by-election for the Dawakin Kudu–Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State was conducted peacefully, with voters turning out in large numbers to elect a new representative following the death of the former member of the House of Representatives, Barrister Muhammed Danjuma Hassan.

The poll, held across the constituency in North-West Nigeria, witnessed a calm atmosphere and impressive voter participation, with many residents arriving early at polling units to cast their ballots.

Security personnel were visibly deployed across polling centres to maintain law and order, while voters interviewed during the exercise commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the smooth conduct and organisation of the election.

The by-election featured candidates from three political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied People’s Movement (APM).

Speaking to journalists at a polling unit in Warawa Local Government Area, Kano Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Abdu Zango, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, describing the process as peaceful and well-coordinated.

“So far, so good. You have seen for yourself that the election has gone on very well. There has been no violence whatsoever. The massive turnout, especially in Warawa, reflects the effectiveness of our planning and coordination, particularly in terms of security.

I want to commend the police and other security agencies for their meticulous preparations,” he said.

Zango also praised the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), noting that the technology functioned efficiently throughout the exercise. “The BVAS worked very well because we updated the devices days before the election to ensure optimal performance. We are proud of the outcome and will continue to improve the system ahead of future elections,” he added.

The REC further explained that INEC intensified voter education and public enlightenment campaigns, emphasising that democracy thrives when citizens actively participate in the electoral process.

Also speaking, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, lauded the peaceful atmosphere and the strong collaboration among security agencies.

“The general public has now realised that carrying weapons during elections serves no useful purpose. The people conducted themselves peacefully, and we are satisfied with the level of orderliness witnessed during the exercise,” he stated.

Bakori assured residents that the police would sustain and improve upon the current security framework to guarantee safer elections in the future.

Similarly, Chairman of Warawa Local Government Area, Alhaji Lamido Sanusi Ahmad, attributed the successful conduct of the election to effective planning and collaboration among stakeholders.

He commended electoral officials, security agencies, political actors, and voters for ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process.
