The Presidency has confirmed that the Kano–Jigawa–Katsina to Maradi railway project is about 60 percent complete, asserting that the critical infrastructure is on track for delivery by the end of 2027.
Emphasising the steady progress on the Kaduna–Kano–Jigawa–Katsina–Maradi railway project, Engr. Ali Bukar, Resident Engineer of Section Two from the Federal Ministry of Transportation, disclosed this during an inspection visit by members of the Presidential Media Team, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, to the project site in Jigawa to assess the level of work.
Speaking during the inspection part of an ongoing tour of federal and state projects in the North-West initiated by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors led by Hope Uzodimma, Bukar said the project has reached 60 percent completion across its two corridors and remains on track for delivery by December 2027.

A statement issued by the State House Director of Information and Public Relations, Abiodun Oladunjoye, added that the engineer noted intensified construction activities along the Kano–Dutse corridor, with major works currently focused on bridge construction across key waterways and difficult terrains.
He said foundation works, including piling and substructure development for several bridges, have reached advanced stages, while superstructure installations are ongoing in multiple locations.

Engr Bukar explained that significant milestones have been achieved along the Kano to Jigawa section of the rail line, which spans approximately 104 kilometres, as well as the branch line linking Kano to Dutse, with track laying, earthworks, and structural components along both alignments in place.
According to him, the project was fully funded under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Infrastructure funding scheme.
The team also inspected some landmark projects undertaken by the Kano and Jigawa State Governments. These include the interchange flyover bridge in Tal-Udu, the Gwale Local Government Area of Kano, and the ongoing construction of a concrete waterline from Kapin Chiri Dam in Garko Local Government of the Kano South Senatorial District for irrigation farming.

In Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, the team also inspected the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Skills Acquisition Centre, as well as tractors acquired by the state government for agricultural purposes.
