The Kano State Police Command has emerged as a reference point for security management and intelligence-led policing following a study tour by participants of the Defence Intelligence Officers’ Course (DIOC) 22/2026 from the Defence Intelligence College, Karu-Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.
The delegation, led by the Deputy Commandant of the College, Group Captain A.O. Adisa, visited the Command Headquarters in Bompai as part of a research exercise focused on the theme “Operational Intelligence for National Crises Prevention and Response.”
Speaking during the visit, Adisa said Kano was deliberately selected as a case study because of its population size, strategic importance and complex security environment.

He explained that the study tour was aimed at exposing participants from various security agencies to practical approaches adopted by the Kano State Police Command in addressing security challenges and maintaining public order.
“The Command has demonstrated effective security management strategies that provide valuable lessons for intelligence officers and security practitioners,” he said.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, welcomed the delegation and outlined key initiatives that have helped sustain peace and stability across the state.
According to him, the Command’s success is anchored on strengthened community policing partnerships involving traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, vigilante groups and youth leaders.

He also highlighted intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration, regular training and retraining of personnel, expansion of cybercrime operations, public awareness campaigns and the implementation of Operation Kukan Kura as critical components of the Command’s security strategy.
The Police Commissioner further shared practical experiences on policing and crisis management during an interactive session with participants, who sought insights into contemporary security threats and effective response mechanisms.
Adisa commended the leadership of the Kano State Police Command and its officers for their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, noting that other security formations visited during the study tour had equally acknowledged the Command’s outstanding performance.
“We visited Army and Air Force formations in Kano, and they all testified that the police are doing a great job in ensuring the security of the state,” he stated.
On behalf of the participants, DSP A.H. Runka expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police for the opportunity to learn from his wealth of experience, describing him as a mentor and role model whose leadership has positively impacted policing in Kano State.
The visit underscored the growing recognition of the Kano State Police Command’s security framework and its contribution to strengthening intelligence-driven policing and national security efforts.
