Binta Aliyu, Kebbi

The Kebbi State Government says the state has witnessed significant infrastructural transformation under the administration of Governor Nasir Idris.
The State Commissioner for Works, Mr Abdullahi Umar Faruk, stated that ongoing projects across key sectors are aimed at improving infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and promoting socio-economic development in the state, stating this while highlighting the administration’s infrastructural achievements.
According to Faruk, the Ministry of Works executed and supervised several landmark projects between June 2023 and April 2026 in areas including road construction, rehabilitation, bridges, drainage systems, public buildings and other critical infrastructure aimed at improving residents’ living standards.

He said completed projects included the dualisation of the Birnin Kebbi–Ambursa Road; the rehabilitation of 30 kilometres of township roads in Birnin Kebbi; the rehabilitation of roads in Yauri; the completion of road networks within the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ultra-Modern Secretariat Complex; and the dualisation of the Argungu Old Bypass Road.

Faruk added that the administration also carried out emergency flood intervention projects, construction of culverts and retaining walls, road expansion projects, and rehabilitation works in different parts of the state to ease transportation and support economic activities.

The commissioner further disclosed that ongoing projects include the reconstruction of the Koko–Mahuta–Dabai Road, dualisation of Abdulsalami Road in Jega, rehabilitation of Ahmadu Bello Way in Gwandu, construction of access roads and drainage systems at the Badariya MOPOL Barracks, as well as the Kamba–Kwakkwaba–
Sarfa-Banizumbu Road project.

He noted that under the Department of Architecture and Building, the government completed the long-abandoned Ultra-Modern Secretariat Complex, renovated Government House facilities, upgraded the deputy governor’s residence, rehabilitated hospitals and primary healthcare centres across the state, and executed several constituency projects supervised by the ministry.

Faruk said the projects also included the construction and renovation of schools, mosques, village head palaces, court complexes, solar installations, drainage systems, and cemetery fencing and the provision of educational facilities across various local government areas.

Speaking on the impact of the projects, the commissioner said the rehabilitation of the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport and the construction of a modern fuel dump restored full operations at the airport, leading to its selection by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria as one of the centres for the inaugural 2024 Hajj airlift operations.

He added that the rehabilitation and modernisation of major roads within Birnin Kebbi had transformed the state capital into a more modern city with improved traffic flow, enhanced aesthetics and better economic opportunities for residents and investors.

Faruk also said the reconstruction of the 87-kilometre Koko–Mahuta–Dabai Road would strengthen agricultural production, improve inter-border trade and connect communities across the southern part of the state to the capital, thereby promoting economic growth and social inclusion.
