The Kebbi State Government has announced plans to implement special welfare schemes for workers to enable them access housing, car and motorcycle loans.
Governor Nasir Idris made this known during the opening of a 10-day training programme for 2,000 Civil servants on e-government migration for effective service delivery in Birnin Kebbi.
Digital knowledge
Dr. Idris described the training as highly important in enabling workers to acquire digital knowledge and strengthen e-governance for optimal performance.
“I thank the workforce for supporting my administration. As a labour leader, I am one of you and I understand your feelings,” the Governor said.
He said; “I will do everything possible to improve the welfare of workers. The construction of the ultra-modern Bola Ahmed Tinubu Secretariat by my administration, which was commissioned by Mr President, is part of my commitment to bringing civil servants under one roof for effective service delivery.”
The Governor further stated that the secretariat complex, conference hall and other offices would be provided with a 24-hour power supply, including solar energy, to create a conducive environment for government business.
“I have instructed the Secretary to the State Government and the Head of Service to work together towards achieving this objective,” he said.
Governor Idris noted that his administration had maintained the prompt and regular payment of salaries under the new minimum wage structure, as well as gratuities and pensions, stressing that the government owed no worker.
“Furthermore, my administration has introduced a policy allowing teachers to rise to the position of permanent secretary as a means of motivation and encouragement,” the Governor announced.
Innovative strategy
The Head of Service, TPL Malami Shekare, and the Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Ibrahim Sakaba, described the training as an innovative strategy aimed at shaping the future of governance.
“This is a transformative journey that will enable civil servants to embrace digital technology in government business,” they said.
“It is part of Governor Nasir Idris’ digital transformation agenda to equip civil servants with digital literacy for efficient public service delivery,” they added.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Sakaba, described the workshop as a transformative initiative that would reposition the state workforce for effective digital governance.
