The Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris has flagged off the distribution of fertiliser and improved seeds for the 2026 wet farming season under the Climate Change Adaptation Seed Support Programme.
The Governor said the initiative is aimed at boosting food production, reducing the impact of climate change on farming, and supporting farmers with essential agricultural inputs.
Idris announced that the state government would distribute 6,000 metric tonnes of NPK fertiliser to about 120,000 farmers across the state through 3,743 polling units to ensure the inputs reach genuine beneficiaries.
He also disclosed that 100 metric tonnes of drought-tolerant and early-maturing millet and rice seeds will be distributed to help farmers cope with irregular rainfall and improve crop yields.
The governor said the programme is part of the Kebbi Agricultural Development Agenda (KADAGE), which focuses on increasing productivity, reducing production costs and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
He highlighted other interventions by the state government, including the distribution of power tillers, irrigation pumps and the revival of the subsidised tractor hiring scheme to strengthen agricultural production.
Idris warned beneficiaries against selling or diverting the fertiliser and seeds, stressing that offenders would face legal action.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Shehu Mu’azu, said the government remains committed to supporting farmers through the annual distribution of fertiliser and other agricultural inputs.
