Kwara Assembly Passes 23 Bills in Three Years

Tunde Akanbi, Ilorin

The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Salihu Danladi, has said the legislature passed 23 bills and adopted 88 motions in the last three years, underscoring the role of state assemblies in deepening democratic governance and driving development at the grassroots.

Danladi disclosed this on Tuesday during a special plenary session marking the third anniversary of the Tenth Assembly in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

According to the Speaker, the bills passed by the House comprise both executive and private member bills, reflecting lawmakers’ commitment to legislative initiatives to improve governance and service delivery in the state.

He noted that members of the Assembly played active roles in the legislative process through extensive debates and scrutiny of executive proposals before their eventual passage.

The Speaker said the 88 motions considered by the House were centred on Matters of General Public Importance and were designed to address the concerns and aspirations of constituents across the state’s 24 constituencies.

Danladi explained that several resolutions passed by the Assembly and transmitted to the executive arm had contributed to developmental projects and infrastructure interventions recorded in different parts of the state.

He expressed confidence in lawmakers’ capacity to sustain efforts to deliver democratic dividends, stressing that the Assembly would continue to prioritise quality legislation, oversight functions, and effective representation.

“The House remains committed to changing the narrative through impactful lawmaking and responsive representation,” he said.

The Speaker attributed the stability and productivity of the Assembly to the unity among members, noting that the harmonious relationship within the legislature had helped create a conducive environment for the administration of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Danladi also appreciated the support of the Kwara State chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, whom he described as a father figure, and commended religious leaders for their prayers and contributions to peace and development in the state.
