Kwara To Initiate Best Performing Local Government Council Awards

The Kwara State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development will unveil the best performing Local Government Council in the State after evaluating  impacts of their projects in their Council Areas.

The Commissioner Architect Aliyu Muhammad Saifuddeen at an interactive meeting with all the Council Chairmen disclosed that the move to award the best performing Local Government became imperative to encourage them to deliver more the dividends of democracy to their people.

In a press statement by the Press Secretary of the Ministry, Oba Azeez Bolaji, the Commissioner reiterated that all the Council Areas, as autonomous entities, are in charge of their affairs including finances and choices of projects to be executed based on the request of their people. He however emphasised that the Ministry only performs over sight function of monitoring and advice where necessary.

Aliyu further disclosed that he was overwhelmed and elated while receiving the submissions on the journey so far from all the Council Chairmen and most especially the volume of projects they were able to execute within the little time of their appointment into their various Council Areas.

According to him, the Ministry will visit all the Council Areas to conduct on the spot assessment of the projects done and most especially the impacts it will have on the benefiting communities.

Aliyu, attributed the success stories recorded in all the councils to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s non interference of the State Government and any of its apparatus in the administration of the third tier system of the Government.

Autonomous entity

Responding on behalf of the Chairmen, the Chairman Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, Jide Asonibare who also doubles as the Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Council, thanked the state Governor for ensuring Local Governments are not influenced by any tier of Government or any of its organs.

Asonibare added that all the achievements they were able to showcase since their appointment were geared towards complimenting the giant strides of the Governor.

The ALGON Chief, who also lauded the  Commissioner for his positive disposition towards Local Government autonomy in the State, assured that they will continue to give priority attention to their Areas in the provision of developmental projects to enhance standard of living.

He equally implored his colleagues to continue to be committed, dedicated, accountable and transparent to the people in the discharge of the their onerous responsibilities.
