Lawmaker representing Ikenne, Sagamu and Remo North Federal Constituency in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, says her seven months in office have resulted in the execution of people-centred projects aimed at improving the welfare of her constituents.
Speaking with National Assembly correspondents in Abuja, Ayoola-Elegbeji said her legislative interventions had facilitated the execution of more than 11 infrastructure projects across the constituency, despite challenges associated with project implementation.
“For instance, there is a solar lighting project in Ikenne Local Government Area, specifically within Ikenne town. There are also constituency projects in Sagamu, including road construction in Iwolo and another solar lighting project.
“Other projects include the rehabilitation of health centres in Ibelefun and Ogijo; work on High Court Road (Oko-Ada Road); rural electrification in Orile-Oko, Remo North Local Government Area; and the construction of a modern abattoir in Sagamu, among others,” she said.
The lawmaker stated that empowerment programmes for residents would commence within the next two weeks, noting that contractors had already been mobilised for the exercise.
She also disclosed that she personally funded the grading of roads in Ward 14, Sagamu, where erosion had severely damaged road networks ahead of the rainy season.
“Since contractors had not yet been mobilised due to funding delays, I sponsored palliative work to make the roads passable until proper construction begins,” she added.
According to Ayoola-Elegbeji, her seven months in office have also witnessed the sponsorship of several bills and motions.
The bills include the establishment of the School of Nursing and Allied Professionals, Ode-Lemo/Emuren, the enhancement of the Federal College of Agricultural Sciences at Orile-Oko in Remo North Local Government Area, the creation of five additional local government areas within Remo Federal Constituency, and the proposed creation of Ijebu-Remo State.
She listed some of her motions to include the rehabilitation of the dilapidated Ibere River Bridge in Emuren Town, addressing the Ogijo lead poisoning crisis, and the urgent need for pedestrian bridges along the ongoing Sagamu-Benin Expressway project.
Ayoola-Elegbeji lamented that the constituency lost several opportunities following the death of her predecessor, the late Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, but noted that strategic efforts had been introduced to sustain development and attract more projects.
“I personally funded ecological studies, and by the grace of God, three projects were captured under the Ecological Fund,” she said.
The lawmaker appealed to stakeholders in Ogun State to support ongoing development efforts in the constituency, stressing the importance of continuity in office to ensure the completion of ongoing projects.
She said she had also reached out to constituents during Ramadan and Easter through the distribution of food items to mosques and churches.
Ayoola-Elegbeji further disclosed that she organised coaching classes for about 1,000 students, adding that feedback from constituents had been encouraging.
She expressed confidence that Dapo Abiodun, as leader of the party in Ogun State, would listen to the wishes of party members and constituents.
“We have a listening governor in Governor Dapo Abiodun. He listens to the grassroots and the hierarchy of the party.
“So, I believe we will have the opportunity to present our case, and I trust he will do the right thing,” she said.
The lawmaker also called for increased support for women in politics, noting the low number of female lawmakers in the National Assembly.
“In the entire South-West, there are only about 12 women in the House out of 360 members, and I am the only female representative from Ogun State,” she said.
She stressed the need to encourage more women to participate in politics while also supporting serving female lawmakers who have demonstrated effective representation.
Ayoola-Elegbeji described her position as a privilege and a responsibility she remains committed to discharging diligently.
“I have shown my willingness to work hard, listen to the concerns of my constituents, and provide quality representation.
“I also believe I have demonstrated the capacity to continue the legacy of the late Adewunmi Onanuga, who was widely recognised for effective representation,” she said.
Ayoola-Elegbeji, who assumed office on Oct. 25, 2025, following her victory in the August 2025 by-election, reaffirmed her commitment to delivering purposeful and people-centred representation for the people of Ikenne, Sagamu and Remo North Federal Constituency.
