The Minority Whip of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Dr. Ali Isa JC has called on politicians across the country to remain accountable and committed to fulfilling their campaign promises.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony for the reconstruction of the Nyuwar and Jessu roads in Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State, Dr. Isa emphasised that political officeholders must deliver on their pledges and transparently showcase their achievements while in office.
According to the lawmaker, the road project forms part of the promises he made to his constituents and is a tangible demonstration of his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy.
He reiterated his determination to fulfil all campaign pledges before the end of the 10th National Assembly.
In addition to road works, Dr. Isa listed several completed constituency projects, including the construction of classroom blocks, the provision of solar-powered water schemes and street lighting, upgraded healthcare facilities, the deployment of an ambulance to serve Nyuwar and Jessu communities, as well as employment opportunities for local residents.
He commended the people of Gombe State for their consistent peaceful conduct, while criticising what he described as the unruly behaviour of some supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, during the recent North East Zonal Meeting held in the state.
He urged the APC to publicly apologise to Gombe residents for the disruption.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Gombe State, Mr. Magaji Mijinyawa, hailed Dr. Isa as a key pillar of the party in the state and praised his representation at both state and national levels.
Mr. Mijinyawa remarked that if more elected officials performed as diligently as Dr. Isa, the country would have progressed significantly.
He encouraged party supporters to reject violence and focus on regaining political leadership in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mr. Mijinyawa also highlighted the achievements of past PDP administrations in Gombe, urging party members to mobilise to win all National Assembly, State Assembly, and gubernatorial seats in the next electoral cycle.
Former Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Mr. Thaanda Jason Rubainu, echoed the sentiments, applauding Dr. Isa’s contributions to improving the lives of his constituents.
He also used the opportunity to advocate for a power shift to Gombe South in 2027, calling on citizens to support the region in producing the next governor.
The contractor for the Nyuwar-Jessu road project, Haruna Jibrin Garba, assured attendees that the work would be completed to high standards within 30 days.
The road to Nyuwar is 6.4 kilometres, while the road to Jessu is 4.6 kilometres.
