NAHCON Begins Return Airlift of Nigerian Pilgrims from Saudi Arabia

By Fatima Hassan and Tanimu Hassan.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has begun the airlift of Nigerian pilgrims from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the departure of more than 500 pilgrims to Nigeria.

NAHCON also urged pilgrims to strictly adhere to the approved baggage allowance of two checked bags weighing up to 23 kilograms each, in addition to one piece of hand luggage not exceeding 8 kilograms. The Commission stressed that multiple hand-luggage items will not be permitted.

Pilgrims are also reminded that luggage screening will take place 48 hours before their scheduled departure to ensure early delivery of baggage upon arrival in Nigeria and facilitate smoother clearance procedures.

The Commission further cautioned pilgrims against packing Zamzam water or other prohibited items in their luggage, warning that such items will be confiscated during screening. Prohibited items include flammable materials, lighter fluid, lithium batteries and power banks in checked baggage, aerosols, excessive quantities of liquids, and sharp objects in hand luggage.

Meanwhile, NAHCON commended the four designated air carriers for commencing return flight operations on schedule despite concerns over the rising cost of aviation fuel. The Commission reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the operation and ensuring that the airlines do not incur losses during the return airlift exercise.
