The Nigerian Navy has dismantled and destroyed an illegal refining site containing three large storage tanks and a cooking pot in Promise Land Community, along Nanabie Creek in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The operation was conducted by the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny following the discovery of the illegal refining facility on September 30 through credible intelligence.
According to the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Commanding Officer, FOB Bonny, Captain SMC Umeh, led the operation to the site, where the illegal refining infrastructure and associated equipment were destroyed in accordance with established regulations.

The Navy said “the intervention had further disrupted illegal refining activities in the Bonny area by removing infrastructure that could be used by criminal operators to process and store stolen crude oil”.

He said that “the operation was part of ongoing efforts under Operation DELTA SENTINEL to tackle crude oil theft and illegal refining activities within its Area of Operations“.
The Nigerian Navy said “it would continue to strengthen surveillance and monitoring across the area to prevent the establishment or reactivation of illegal refining sites…”

It stated that the move would also deny criminal elements the infrastructure needed to sustain crude oil theft and related activities.
