The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed four facilities in Nasarawa State over alleged breaches of environmental standards and regulatory requirements.
The enforcement operation was carried out as part of the agency’s efforts to ensure compliance with environmental laws and protect public health and the environment.
The facilities sealed are ABZAT Quarry, Hoafong Mining Trading Company Ltd, Emono Venture and Mivanyi Integrated Farms.
The enforcement team, led by the Head of Operations, NESREA Karu Operational Office, Mr Da’am Monday, said; “the facilities were shut down for offences ranging from air pollution to failure to provide required environmental management documents.”
According to a statement by NESREA Assistant Director, Press, Mrs Nwamaka Ejiofor, the action was taken in line with the agency’s statutory mandate to prevent activities that could undermine environmental sustainability, endanger public health and violate established environmental standards.
The agency warned operators of industrial, mining, agricultural and other facilities to comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations or face enforcement action.
It also urged businesses and facility operators to adopt environmentally responsible practices and deploy the best available technology to minimise pollution and other environmental impacts arising from their operations.
NESREA reiterated its commitment to enforcing environmental standards across the country, stressing that “compliance was essential to protecting ecosystems, safeguarding public health and promoting sustainable development.”
The Agency said the latest enforcement exercise underscored its resolve to ensure that economic activities were carried out in an environmentally responsible manner.
