NFPL: Sporting Lagos Stun Plateau, Rivers United Go Top

Sporting Lagos staged a remarkable comeback to defeat 10-man Plateau United 3-2 away from home, while Rivers United moved to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) standings following the round 9 results.

The Tech Boys side overturned a 2-1 half-time deficit to secure their third away victory in five matches, extending their impressive record on the road this season.

Sporting Lagos made a flying start against Plateau United, breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute through Aliyu Baba.

Plateau United responded strongly and equalised in the 35th minute when Victor Dawa fired home from outside the penalty area.

Deep into first-half stoppage time, Dawa slot home from close range to complete his brace, handing Plateau United a 2-1 lead at the break.

However, Sporting Lagos fought back eight minutes after the restart.

Baba turned provider, slipping the ball into Victor Samuel’s path for the forward to finish at the near post and level the scores at 2-2.
