Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Nigerian sprinter Ajayi Kayinsola and British-Nigerian basketball star OG Anunoby, for their outstanding achievements in sports.
Dabiri-Erewa praised Ajayi for his record-breaking performances and rapid rise in world athletics, noting that his qualification for the 100m final at the 2025 World Athletics Championships made him the first Nigerian in 18 years to reach the event’s final.
She also highlighted his impressive 2026 season, during which he broke Nigeria’s long-standing 100m record and emerged as one of the world’s fastest sprinters.

“His success story underscores the importance of investing in youth development, sports and talent discovery,” she said, urging stakeholders to continue supporting talented Nigerians.
The NiDCOM boss also commended OG Anunoby for his decisive contribution to the New York Knicks victory in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Anunoby sealed the dramatic comeback with a game-winning tip-in, helping the Knicks recover from a 29-point deficit.
Describing both athletes as symbols of Nigerian excellence and resilience, Dabiri-Erewa said their achievements continue to project a positive image of Nigeria globally and inspire young Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.
She wished both stars continued success in their careers and expressed confidence that they would continue to make Nigeria proud on the world stage.
