The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated two distinguished Nigerian women, Ugwechi Amadi and Professor Oghenetega Ighedo, for their outstanding achievements on the global stage.
In a statement issued in Abuja by the Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit of NiDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa described their accomplishments as a source of immense pride for Nigeria, saying they reflect the talent, resilience and intellectual capacity of Nigerians in the diaspora who continue to excel internationally.
She praised Ugwechi Amadi on her recent appointment as Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of McDonald’s, describing it as another milestone for Nigerians making significant contributions in global corporate leadership.

Amadi is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a Rhodes Scholar and holds a PhD from the University of Oxford. She has previously served in senior leadership positions at LIV Golf, Nike and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
Dabiri-Erewa also celebrated Professor Oghenetega Ighedo for making history as the first Black woman to earn a PhD in Pure Mathematics from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
The NiDCOM Chairman noted that Ighedo, who is an Associate Professor of Mathematical Sciences at UNISA, has distinguished herself through academic excellence and research while inspiring greater participation in mathematics and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
According to Dabiri-Erewa, “their accomplishments also underscore the importance of creating opportunities for young Nigerians, particularly women and girls, to pursue excellence in leadership, science, technology, engineering, mathematics and other critical areas.”
She commended Amadi and Ighedo for breaking barriers in their respective fields and serving as role models for the younger generation.
Dabiri-Erewa reaffirmed NiDCOM’s commitment to recognising and promoting the achievements of Nigerians in the diaspora, noting that their success stories continue to enhance Nigeria’s global reputation and strengthen ties between the diaspora and the homeland.
She wished both women continued success in their careers and expressed confidence that they would make even greater contributions to global development.
